The course aims at providing students additional knowledge in addition to what already learned in previous courses. Emphasis is paid on structures that require an adequate specialization, in particular prestressed concrete structures The student will learn theoretical and analytical-numerical tools for the design and testing of such structures, with reference to the current national and International codes Eurocodes.

I, Liguori editore Educational objectives The main goal of the Course is to provide students with basic knowledge of structural design of components and systems in reinforced concrete and steel. Prerequisites In order to more easily understand and be able to apply the teached concepts you need to have successfully supported the examination of Structural Mechanics and Strenght of Materials.
Teaching methods The course is organized as follows: - frontal lesson on all the topics of the course; - classroom exercise; - visits in precast factories, carpentry workshops and construction sites if possible. Learning verification modality The exam includes a written test, an oral test and the illustration of a technical report produced by a working group.
The written test consists in performing two numerical exercises. The oral exam is a discussion lasting about 45 minutes aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding achieved by students on the theoretical and methodological implications listed in the teaching program. This trial will also test the ability of communication of the student and of autonomous organization of the exposure on the theoretical topics.
Extended program Teaching unit I: Theoretical Fundamentals 25 hours The methodology of structural design. Structural reliability. Types and Patterns of actions and materials. Eurocodes and Italian legislation. Elastic analysis of frames. The measure of security in terms of forces, components of stress, tension. Teaching Unit II: Structural steel 25 hours Steel structures: materials, method of calculation; resistance tests, stability tests, practical rules for the design and execution; legislation.
Teaching Unit III: Reinforced concrete structures 25 hours Construction of reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete: materials, method of calculation; resistance tests, stability tests, practical rules for the design and execution; legislation. Exercises 35 hours Examples of design and verification of individual structural elements of simple structural systems frames, portals , links and nodes for the steel construction for those in structural concrete. Such examples will serve as the basis for the development of the technique developed in the Laboratory of Construction.
